Austin Profiles: Austin Steam Train

One of the most unique and interesting attractions of the city and around the Capitol are the different excursions offered by the Association of Austin Steam Train. With engines and passenger cars, riders are transported to another time and place, enjoying three levels of style travel – economy class, class and first class excursions. A holiday favorite, the Austin Steam Train is a wonderful way to discover the slower, relaxing pace of train travel while enjoying the beauty of the Hill Country.

Those who opt for economy class knows a car built by the railroad in Pennsylvania in 1920. Refurbished by ASTA volunteers, these lovingly restored relics went back in charge in 1992 with a car that had been converted into a car dealership, which offers snacks and memories. While these cars did not have air conditioning or heating, have windows that open, allowing the breeze to cool riders naturally.
