Culture of South Austin

Austin has lots of colorful neighborhoods and shopping centers, but most locals will tell you that Austin is divided into two distinct areas: South Austin and North Austin. The Colorado River runs directly in the center of the city, surrounding the business district the south perimeter, and flows westward, the river in the north end of Zilker Park and if the area of Barton Springs. Part of the river in the metropolitan area recently was named Lady Bird Lake, and was formerly known as Town Lake.

South Austin is ranked among Austin residents that the area under the city again is a very eclectic, and most residents are considered informal, casual and very individualistic. South of Austin has two main streets that attract restaurants, clubs and stores. South Congress Avenue is one of those streets, beginning at the State Capitol Building a few miles north of the river, and ends a few miles Highway south of the center and finally merges with Interstate 35, which is the main north-south in the Austin area. South Lamar is the main artery of others, that runs through Austin, from his point of departure Del Norte, where he begins a few miles north of Austin on Interstate 35 at its southernmost point, a few miles south of Austin, where it joins the highway interchange on Highway 290 West and Loop 360.

Austin relate to shopping and entertainment in Southern Avenue Congress, the SOCO area, and many world class restaurants can be found in SOCO, and many clothing stores, antique and retro shops and street vendors who sell a variety of reasonably cheap goods to pedestrians and other bystanders. Once a month, shopkeepers keep SOCO as a street fair on the sidewalk outside restaurants and shops First today called on the first Thursday of the month. There is often live music and most of the shops display their wares on the sidewalk, with street vendors, appearing in full force. Many reasonably cheap new housing developments being built in this area too, most apartments have a views of the lake and the SOCO district. Many famous landmarks are in the SOCO area, including the Hotel San José, with a cafe next to Jo, both favorite of locals and tourists. Against San Jose in the heart of SOCO, is one of the most popular blues and rock clubs in the Austin area, called the Club Continental. The local newspaper, Austin American Statesman, also called SOCO northern home, and is just south of Congress Avenue Bridge. The bridge itself has a crosswalk on each side, two pedestrians who give a good view of Lake Lady Bird. The neighborhood of Travis Heights, SoCo years around is an eclectic collection of 1940 and 1950 outbreaks.

One of the most unusual events in Austin is the night flight of bats under the bridge, where they nest, the sky just after sunset Sun Austin, beautiful views and spectacular. Bats are the most numerous in March and April, and are actually Mexican free-tailed bats in their annual journey to and from Mexico. Tourists and many other herds in the area to observe the bats make their pilgrimage to the night stars and clouds above Lady Bird Lake. The bat colony is the largest bat colony in North America, and during the season, more than a million bats. Austin Dillo Orange Free bus passes every ten minutes during the first Thursday of free parking located in a Texas practice of Barton Springs Center, so that visitors do not have to worry about parking the Congress itself.

South Lamar, sometimes called the District of Sola is a new area known restaurants and shops. South Lamar is more oriented residential area and a nice SOCO elderly housing in the area of Barton Hills, with almost all households with cross streets, apartments, duplexes and other housing, schools and churches, which can also be found in SOCO. The west side of South Lamar neighborhood along the perimeter of Zilker Park and Barton Springs, Barton Springs Pool house, which is the fourth largest underground reservoir fed by a spring in Texas. The pool consists of three acres and has a temperature of 68 degrees year. From the pool at Barton Greenbelt Springs offers hiking, biking and walking many miles, next to the renowned Barton Creek, which feeds the pool. There are many hiking trails with well-developed information kiosks describing the region and attractions in each place, as the location of wells with the locals, such as Campbell hole, a very old swimming hole well known, water is fed Barton Creek.

The area south of Lamar is close enough to the SOCO area for pedestrians to walk the short distance, or take the city bus, and the two Long Street is another area side a little less developed South First Street, which runs parallel to the Congress and Lamar, between the two. First South is also home of many restaurants and shops and is a nice place for Congress from across southern and southeast of Lamar. Things are not much better that to live in Austin or visiting the district of South Austin!
