how do you teach your toddler about strangers?
my nephew is 5 and loves strangers. my sister doesn’t keep as close an eye on him as i think she should but he loves it when they go to a store or something and he will just walk/run off from his mom to the next isle and when she finds him, he’s talking to a stranger about just whatever. luckily he has met only good strangers so far, but he thinks that means nothing will ever happen.
i was watching him the other evening and he did that to me in krogers. i said thats dangerous austin b/c a stranger can take you but he says no they won’t they never have.he even hid from his mom in walmart before b/c it was “funny”. they called a code adam and everything.
what can my sis do to keep her son safe? and i made him stay in the cart after that at krogers and he was angry, needless to say. he even opens the door to strangers if his mom is asleep or showering.
remember that strangers are anyone your child doesn’t really know. teaching our kids they can automatically trust their teacher, their preacher, your friends… is a contradiction to the message of not trusting strangers. judgement is the hardest lesson we have to teach our kids.
